Contrary to widespread rumor over the whereabouts of some VIP prisoner inmates following the July 5 invasion of the Kuje Correctional Centre, the Nigeria Correctional Service, NCoS, says both alleged kidnad mastermind, Hamisu Bala, better known as Madume, and husband of late gospel singer, Peter Nwachukwu, are still in custody.
News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that NCoS spokesperson, FCT Command, Chukwuedo Humphrey, made the disclosure in Abuja on Tuesday. According to the report, both inmates were still in custody.
The statement is coming on the heel of several previous reports that the two inmates are among those that escaped alongside hundreds of others following the facility breach by alleged ISWAP terrorists.
According to Humphrey who described the story as false and reckless, the clarification became imperative following earlier reports of the duo’s escape.
“The story is false, reckless and mischievous. They are still in custody. Efforts are ongoing to recapture all fleeing inmates. The Controller-General, NCoS, Haliru Nababa, is determined to continue to upscale inmates’ welfare and safety,” Humphrey said.
