Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, says it has rescued 15 people whose boat capsized on Wednesday in Ikorodu. According to the agency, two others however, lost their lives.
LASEMA spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, who made the disclosure, stated that the 20 passenger boat, named named “Rahael & Nike II’’, which left the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal sank after shortly departure. The boat, which had 17 passenger on board at the time of the incident, capsized following suspected mechanical fault.
Whereas 15 persons were rescued by a team of LASWA and LASEMA Water Guards, two adult female passengers, retrieved unconscious and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment were later pronounced dead.
“During the operation, 15 persons were rescued alive by a team of Water Guards, the Search and Rescue Team of the Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, and LASEMA response teams. nt. Two adult female were found unconscious and taken to the hospital. They unfortunately never regained consciousness and were later declared dead.
LASWA, Okunbor said, has instituted an investigation into the cause of the mishap with the boat captain is also put under investigation by the relevant authorities.
