Two unnamed police officers of the Nigerian Police Force have been detained in connection with invaders of Kuje Prison in Abuja.
According to Daily Trust, the two police officers were nabbed after their communication with some of the escaped terrorists was intercepted.
“Two of the terrorists that escaped called a police investigation officer (IPO) in one of our stations and spoke to him in a compromising manner…They are now being investigated to know their level of complicity,” Daily Trust reported.
Terrorists suspected to be members of the ISWAP group swooped on the Kuje Correctional Centre on Tuesday night and overpowered security operatives at the prison. In the aftermath, they released over 800 inmates, including all the Boko Haram suspects in the detention facility.
Meanwhile, alleged notorious kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Wadume, is reported to be one of those who escaped from the facility following Tuesday’s attack.
The Kidnap Kingpin and gunrunner, who was nabbed in Takum, Taraba state and held over his role in the killing of 3 Police IRT operatives who, alongside DCP Abba Kyari, went for a Special operation in the state, allegedly escaped with the attackers of the detention facility.
He has not been found since the incident and was neither among prisoners recaptured nor those who voluntarily returned after the attack. .
Madume also escaped from Taraba state after the the gruesome murder of the 3 IRT officers that caused national outrage. He was however, rearrested in Kano and brought to Abuja where he was charged to court and remanded pending the conclusion of his trials.
Former head of the IRT, DCP Kyari, earlier reported to be missing, is said to be in protective custody.
