Very young Unknown Gunmen visibly in their 20s numbering about 20 Saturday afternoon invaded and exchanged fire with soldiers stationed at the Agulu Town’s community hall situated along the Awka-Agulu-Nanka-Ekwulobia Federal highway.
In the hot exchange of gunfire which lasted for about 37 minutes, one soldier lost his life while some natives living and carrying on businesses in the buildings overlooking the town hall sustained bullet wounds.

The unfortunate incident occurred during the 2022 Free Medical Outreach for citizens of the area, organized by a nongovernmental philanthropic organization, under the aegis of Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo Foundation, sponsored by a member of the Fed House of Representatives, Hon Dozie Nwankwo. He is representing Njikoka/Anaocha/Dunukofia Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

He is presently aspiring to replace Senator Lilian Uche Ekwunife for the Anambra Central Senatorial seat in the National Assembly.

The gunmen who evidently caught the soldiers unawares invaded the Agulu community hall, an earshot away from Mr Peter Obi’s private residence and next to the original family house the late former Director General of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Prof Dora Akunyili, invaded the hall’s main auditorium where the free medical program took place and was winding up for the day. The gun-totting youths startled the medics and their patients who were rounding things up for the day at about 2pm.

They had rushed into the hall barking orders-“where are they; where are the soldiers? You cannot lock up Nnamdi Kanu and come here to feel free!”

Seeing the wide spread fears and apprehension, they tried reassuring them to calm down that they didn’t come for them. “We are here for these invaders and illegal occupiers of Biafraland…”

But before one could say a word bullets started flying in every direction, shattering glasses. At the end, one soldier lay dead on the highway.

His remains was quickly cordoned off by other soldiers while a reinforcement of more men arrive in minutes and evacuated the corpse.

The road was immediately closed to traffic while the soldiers numbering about 20 patrolled the entire neighborhood apparently combing in search of the gunmen who had visibly driven away far off.

As things progressed, more soldiers, equipment, including Armoured Personnel Career, APC, arrived. The soldiers had in the midst of the confusion run in different directions to save their dear lives first.
Some journalists who had come to cover the free medical program and other people sustained injuries. Vehicle owners who brought their own vehicles were locked up and prevented from going out or home by the soldiers.

When contacted for reaction, the representative of Hon Dozie Nwankwo, Barrister Law Ugwunna thanked God that none of the doctors, other medics, patients and citizens was injured. He admitted that the free medical program was a philanthropic gesture by a kind hearted son of the area, Hon Dozie Nwankwo (Onye Ndozi)to help the people.

He noted that Hon Nwankwo is currently interested in going to the Senate for Anambra Central. He therefore urged the electorates, especially the delegates of the APGA to vote for him in the fast approaching party primary.
