Behold, The 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland
Receives Staff of Office

ERSTWHILE Otun Ibadan, Chief Lekan Balogun, has been crowned as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan. Following his coronation ceremony which took place in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Friday, March 11, 2023, the new monarch also received his staff of office from state governor, Seyi Makinde, officially confirming the status of the former Senator.


The ceremony, which was declared open at 11.14am with the recitation of the National, Oyo State Anthem and Ibadan Anthems, had the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, leading the federal government delegation.


Other dignitaries present at ceremony include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Kayode Fayemi, Dapo Abiodun, Governors of Ekiti and Ogun States.
Also present are Osun State Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi and his Ondo counterpart, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.


Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, Olubaka of Okaland in Ondo State, Oba Yusuf Adeleye, Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, the Ikere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi Oyeniyi and Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba (Dr). Abd-Ganiy Adekunle Salau, Ajinese 1 lent their presence to the occasion while the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jiauchun, added the diplomatic touch.


Former Governor of Oyo State who doubles as the Otun Olubadan, Chief Rasidi Ladoja was conspicuously present alongside a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro.


With prayers offered by both the Christian and Muslim faithful and rounded off with the traditional prayer by the Araba Awo of Ibadanland, traditional drummers, led by Moshood Ayanyemi, Atookowagbowo, were on hand to add traditioner welcome and entertainment colours for the mammoth guests and well-wishers at the event occasion in a traditional way.


It is expected that all the traditional chiefs, Mogajis, religious leaders, leaders of various associations in Ibadanland will, after the ceremony, pay homage to the new monarch.

Balogun succeeds the 41st Olubadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, who transitioned on Sunday, January 2, 2022.
