*As She Scoops A Decade-Long AIU Ban for Doping and Test Refusal
It’s been long in coming and it came big as Nigeria’s 2008 long jump Olympic silver medalist, Blessing Okagbare-Otagheri, has been banned for 10 years by the Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU.
She got banned for doping, AIU disclosed on Friday.
According to the anti-doping agency, the Nigerian athlete got the hammer for multiple breaches of the Anti-Doping Rules, scooping five years each for use of multiple prohibited substances and another five years for refusing to co-operate with the AIU’s investigation into her case.
“The Disciplinary Tribunal has banned Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare for a total of 10 years,” an AIU statement read in part.
Okagbare-Otagberi, 33, was forced out of the Tokyo Olympics last year shortly before the women’s 100m semi-finals, after testing positive for human growth hormone at an out-of-competition test in Slovakia on July 19.
