Take Another Job-Pinnick Tells Jose Peseiro

Newly touted Super Eagles Portuguese coach, Jose Peseiro, has been told by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick, to take another job ahead of Nigeria’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana in March.

Pinnick made the statement while speaking with newsmen.

I am still talking to him, Jose Peseiro. Maybe he has to wait till after the World Cup qualifiers against Ghana.

If in the course of his waiting, he got another job, we wish him well,” Pinnick said.

Pinnick disclosed that the NFF has not formally entered into any contract with the Portuguese tactician who was named as Super Eagles next coach following the sack of former coach, Gernot Rohr, in December 2021.

Poseiro was expected to take charge of the Super Eagles after the just concluded 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon where Nigeria’s Austin Eguavoen acted as interim head.

The good news is that we did not sign the contract officially.

“We don’t want to rush and make a hasty decision considering the circumstances.

“We have to do what is best for the nation
,” the NFF president added.

Pinnick also revealed that the NFF is collaboration with the country’s ministry of sports to harmonize the country’s quest for a quality coach for the Super Eagles

And we work in harmony with the sports ministry, which represents the government.”

Despite the Super Eagles elimination from AFCON in the second round, many observers are of the opinion that Eguavoen’s gave a sterling in tinkering the team into one with discernable pattern. The outcome also appeared to have endeared him to the country’s football governing body, thus putting him in a position to get a permanent deal.
Pinnick’s confirmation that the NFF is yet to officially sign a contract with Peseiro now seems to give traction to the school of thought.
