Trouble Not Over for Abba Kyari

As Police Service Commission Rejects IGP Panel’s Investigative Report

THERE are indications that former head of the nation’s elite police unit, Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, DCP Abba Kyari, is still neck-deep in trouble over his alleged involvement with Ramos Abbass, alias Hushpuppi.

Reports monitored on Wednesday have it that the Police Service Commission, PSC, the body supervising the Nigerian Police, has rejected the outcome of the investigation over his role in the $1.1million Internet fraud allegation as conducted by DIG Joseph Egbunike and submitted by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.

Following the development, the PSC reverted the report to IGP, urging him to conduct further investigation with a view to providing more clarity to the indictment specifics as made by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.

While addressing newsmen on the issue on December  21, 2021, PSC’s spokesperson, Mr Austin Braimoh, disclosed that in particular, the fate of DCP Abba Kyari, whose investigation report had been submitted to the commission, will be sorted out between January and February 2022. He added that the commission will, thereafter, make known its final decision.

There are several disciplinary cases involving officers and the Police Service Commission will look into them together which is the practice. The PSC is not going to set up a panel to try DCP Abba Kyari or look into his case separately.

The plenary has not deliberated on the aspect of discipline for officers. It will be looked into jointly with other disciplinary cases of other officers having issues. Kyari’s case and others will be decided after due consideration of everything. We do not treat any disciplinary cases in isolation.
