NCAA/Emirates Airlines Faceoff: UAE Backs Down

*Grant Direct Dubai Flight Permit

*Concedes Seven Flight Slots to Air Peace

Contrary to its reported Monday position on the standoff between the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA and Emirates Airlines, authorities in the UAE appear to have backed down.
In an obvious move to avoid diplomatic row, UAE authorities went the extra mile of conceding seven flight slots to the Nigerian carrier, Air Peace. That is in addition to granting the airline the permit to fly directly to Dubai instead of Sharjah Airport.
The new order is contained in a letter reportedly transmitted to Peace Air by the General Civil Aviation Authority on Monday, December 13t, 2021. Though not officially copied, federal officials say the Nigerian federal government is in receipt of te said letter.
In reversing earlier positions, the UAE government pointed out that it was unaware of alleged stoppage of Nigerians from entering any part of  the Emirates through other carriers.

As at 7pm, the General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE has written to Air Peace to come and take its slots. Unlike before, the UAE conceded seven slots to the Nigerian carrier.

In the letter, the UAE said Air Peace can fly directly to Dubai and not Sharjah Airport. This is the latest on the development.

Even though they did not follow the right diplomatic channel by writing the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs which will in turn inform the Aviation Minister,  this is still a positive development,” a federal government source disclosed.
