The Nigerian government has made it clear it is not ready to play second fiddle or remain at the receiving end of the travel ban being imposed on Nigerians by some countries following the outbreak of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
In retaliation for the ban, the Nigerian government has also imposed restrictions airline flights from the affected countries, including Canada, Argentina, UK, Saudi Arabia, beginning Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, made the disclosure in Lagos on Sunday while giving reasons why FG decided to reciprocate the ban by the affected countries that also battling the Omicron variant spread. According to him, countries that placed a travel ban on Nigeria due to the Omicron Covid-19 variant do not have any moral right to have their airlines fly into Nigeria on commercial operations.

Sirika reiterated that airlines of the affected countries remained banned and the countries placed on Nigeria’s red list, adding that the decision is in the interest of the country.
