*As the Omicron Blizzard Causes Global Concerns

THE Omicron blizzard is raging across the world, with Europe and America getting binge hits. Not least connected in the spread is Africa, the smoking gun dispensing centre, now reported as still lending its hand in the spread. However, in the last count, about 13 countries, including Australia, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands and France are some of the countries, besides South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Namibia, have confirmed cases.

But Canada, one of the newest inclusion, is pointing accusing fingers at Nigeria as the source of infection for its two reported cases. According to the North American country, the west African nation is the last destination location of the two persons, raising concerns that Nigeria may already be living with the strain undetected.

Interestingly, the country is yet to be hammered with any travel ban as is the case with South Africa.

Today, the province of Ontario has confirmed two cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in Ottawa, both of which were reported in individuals with recent travel from Nigeria. Ottawa Public Health is conducting case and contact management and the patients are in isolation,” a government statement read.

Omicron, also known as B.1.1.529 variant, is described by international health organizations as a lethal virus of concern and was first reported in South Africa. Besides being very virulent and easily spread, the latest addition to the convolution Covid-19 virus is unaffected by any of the known vaccines.
