N1. 6bn Diversion: EFCC Detains Igbinedion

A former governor of Edo state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes, EFCC.
The former governor who administered the state between 1999 and 2007 is reportedly being questioned over alleged diversion of funds amounting to N1. 6bn. The money is part of a loan the state government obtained but was however, diverted to a company in which he has interest.
It would be recalled that the former governor was arraigned by the EFCC in 2008 and convicted of embezzling N2.9 billion belonging to the state. He was however, sentenced to six months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a one count from its original 191.
