REPORTS from Nteje, Oyi council area of Anambra state, say the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, representative at the House of Reps, Hon Chinedu Obidigwe, representing Anambra East and West, has been arrested by security operatives over a cache of arms and ammunitions allegedly found in his convoy.
Obidigwe was reportedly picked up on Sunday by a combined team of police operatives and army personnel following Intel report that he had the consignment in his convoy. Subsequent security check on the said convoy reportedly yielded 52 Ak-47 rifles, 119 pump actions and thousands of ammunitions.
Initial reports have it that a tense moment ensued when his security aides drew weapons on the supposition that he was being attacked by Unknown Gunmen. They however, stepped down upon realizating that the operatives were members of a security task force.
While the search lasted, Obidigwe reportedly remained inside his bullet-proof vehicle from where he allegedly contacted Gov. Willie Obiano. He was said to have been escorted back to Zone 13 Police Headquarters, Ukpo, where he was detained.
Obidigwe’s arrest is coming under two weeks to the state’s governorship election with escalating security situation over which Gov Obiano paid a visit to President Buhari a few weeks ago when news of a rumoured plans to declare state of emergency in the state broke.
