NDLEA Picks Up 663 Suspects in Notorious Lagos Drug Joints Raids

*Destroys 153, 256kg of Assorted Drugs in Ekiti Forest, Others

A fake police officer, a soldier also suspected to be fake and a youth corps member are among the 663 drug traffickers and users nabbled by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, when they raided notorious drug joints in Lagos, Abuja, Benue and other parts of the country within the last 7 days.

Over the same period, they inpounded 153,256.876kg of assorted illicit drugs.


While combing drug havens in Akala area of Mushin, Lagos on Friday, October 15, in a coordinated operation code-named Operation Still Waters, the narcotics team, comprising 70 NDLEA agents, supported by 30 soldiers, picked up 27 suspects and seized 2,463.876kg of illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroine, tramadol, rohypnol and cannabis sativa.


In another operation in Ojoo and Maryland areas of the state barely 24 hours earlier, anti narcotics raided several drug joints during which they arrested six persons from whom they seized an assortment of illicit drugs. The raid followed others in Alhaji Lasisi Street, Idi Oro, Mushin and Okota area of the state where 22 persons were arrested, with over 165kg of illicit drugs seized.


On Friday, October 15, a team of operatives from the Ogun state command intercepted one Williams Esuabom along Ore-Shagamu Expressway in possession of 562.5kg of cannabis sativa which he was conveying in a Toyota sienna bus just as their counterparts in Benue state raided Lafia Park in a joint operation with soldiers.

The raid yielded six suspects, including a youth corps member, Paul Ndubuisi. They were arrested with different quantities of drugs.

The arrest followed that of a suspected fake soldier, Abel John, along Apir-Makurdi-Aliade road, with 3.5kg Cannabis on Wednesday.


Narcotics hunters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, arrested a suspected fake Assistant Superintendent of Police, Joshua Yusuf, who claimed to be serving in Kano state. He was arrested along Gwagwalada Expressway with 45.5kg of Cannabis.


Three suspects were arrested during raids in Dabba and Luku village, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State where over 64kg drugs were recovered on Wednesday, October 13.


In an operation that began on Tuesday, October 15 till Sunday, October 17, NDLEA operatives destroyed over 150,000 kg of cannabis sativa being harvested on a 40-hectare cannabis farmland in the forest reserve along Uso Road, Ise-Orun LGA, Ekiti state.


In the raids across other states, NDLEA arrested no fewer than 615 suspects and seized 3394.2031 of illicit drugs with a total weight of 3394.2031kg.
