Oke Eze: From Adis Ababa With N2.3b Cocaine


Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, were, once again on target as they intercepted a 7.7kg consignment of cocaine at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Wednesday, September 22.
The drug, made up of 350 wraps of cocaine with with a street value of N2.3bn, was neatly tucked into several compactments of a bag one Oke Eze brought into Nigeria from Ethiopia.
Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, made the disclosure in Abuja on Wednesday. According to the statement made available to newsmen, Eze, a native of Orji River, in Oji-River council area of Enugu State was arrested on Wednesday 22nd September 2021 while passengers on an Ethiopian Airline with flight number 911 were undergoing inward clearance procedures.
“The 38-year-old Eze, from Orji River, in Oji-River Local Government area of Enugu State was arrested on Wednesday 22nd September 2021 during an inward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian airline flight number 911 enroute Bamako-Addis Ababa- Abuja,” Babafemi said.
In his confessional statement, Eze, who claims to live in Mali where he has been after living Nigeria via the Seme border in 2019, confessed that he returned to Nigeria with the drug in order to raise funds for the care of four children left behind by his late elder brother.
Eze disclosed further that he had to carry the drug because he was left without other options after a friend refused to assist him with funds but insist instead that he picked up a bag containing the drug from a friend of his who also resides in Adis Ababa for half a million Naira. The money was to be given to him if he successfully delivered same to someone in Nigeria whose contact would be given to him upon is arrival.
“In his confession, Eze, a resident of Bamako, Mali, said he travelled to Mali through Seme border in Badagry, Lagos state since 2019.
“He further claimed that he came into Nigeria with the drug because he needed to raise money to take care of his late elder brothers’ four children.
“The suspect also claimed he asked his friend who is resident in Brazil to assist him with some money but declined and instead told him to pick up a bag with the drugs from a friend of his in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for a fee of N500, 000 on successful delivery to someone whose contact would be sent to him on arrival in Nigeria.
“He also said the bag containing the drugs was given to him on Wednesday morning at Addis Ababa airport.
According to Eze, the bag containing the drug was handed over to him at the Adis Ababa airport on Wednesday.
