Rampaging bandits in Zamfara state went on the offensive on Thursday, ransacking a community in Zumi council area of the state. In the aftermath, they left several houses, including the country home of the state assembly speaker, Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya, torched.
Chairman, state committee on Security and prosecution of bandits, Abdullahi Shinkafi, made the disclosure on Monday. According to him, the marauding bandits laid seige on and ransacked the community ostensibly to avenge the ongoing military onslaught against them by security forces
Shinkafi, who was in the community on an assessment visit, noted that in addition to deploying more security forces to the affected community, the state government has also concluded plans to assist victims of the carnage.
Shinkafi also assured that two persons alleged to be aiding the bandits with supply of essentials, including food, petrol, etc, have been picked up by security operatives. The saboteurs, he said, were using boats to convey the products from neighbouring Sokoto state, through Issa council area to Shinkafi where the bandits are domiciled in Zamfara state.
“Two foodstuffs and petrol suppliers have been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution,” he disclosed.
