Drugged Candies From The UK: NDLEA Nabs 22-Year-Old NYSC Impostor

From one drug haul to another, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have again, bursted another illicit drug courier, Arnold Maniru who flew into Nigeria from the United Kingdom, loaded to the tilt with drug candies.
In a statement signed by NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the agency disclosed that Maniru, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, posted to an unnamed government agency in Abuja, was arrested on Saturday, August 28.
“A controlled delivery of the parcel, which contains the candies laced with Arizona, a strong variant of cannabis and some liquid, was subsequently carried out,” Babafemi disclosed.
Babafemi also revealed that operatives of the agency, Lagos state command intercepted another set of drug-laced cookies heading to the United Arab Emirate, UAE.
In yet another major burst, operatives of the same Lagos command, attached to courier companies within Lagos, intercepted 1.2kg of cannabis concealed inside locally made cookies going to Dubai, UAE. They also unveiled 920grams of Saudi Arabia-bound cocaine hidden inside synthetic hair.
Babafemi added that NDLEA agents also intercepted Pakistan-bound 1.08kg cannabis concealed, loaded in spray cans just as they uncovered 625grams haul of methamphetamine hidden in clothing heading to Australia.
According to Babafemi, the agency has continued intercepting an impressive cache of illicit drugs and arrest of offenders as it intensifies its operations across the country. In particular, he disclosed that at patrol points in Lokoja, Kogi state, between Monday 30th August and Thursday 2nd September 2021, NDLEA agents intercepted a total of 384.7 kg of assorted narcotics heading to Abuja.
In one off the operations, a truck with registration number Plateau AA 462 QAP, driven by one 50-year-old Danlami Dodo, was intercepted in Lokoja on its from Onitsha, Anambra, to the Abuja, FCT. Upon search, antic narcotic agents found psychoactive substances packed in sacks and cartons. Among them are 1,975 bottles of Cough Syrup with Codeine weighing 282kg and 199 packets of Exol-5 tablets, weighing 75.4kg, 250 packets of Diazepam tablets weighing 15.4kg.
Others are Cannabis Sativa weighing 5.9kg and 1 packet of Ketamine injection, all weighing 378.7kilograms.
On Thursday, a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number Lagos MUS 716 XK, from Ojota, Lagos to Abuja, was found to be conveying 6kg of Arizona sealed in cartons and stuffed in a white sack. The discovery was made during a stop and search operation.
NDLEA’s country wide operation also saw narcotic agents nabbing one Obey James in Rivers state. James, who was arrested during a raid, was found with 4.2grams of heroin, 1.9grams of cocaine and 5.4grams of methamphetamine.
In Niger state, the agents arrested two suspects, Eze John and Michael Ifediegwu along Zungeru-Tegina road. He was nabbed with 18kg of Exol 5, 2kg of Tramadol and 1000 ampoules of pentazocine injection all of which were being taken to Kontagora also in the state.
Chiduzie Ibegbunam, a Kano-based drug dealer was arrested in the state capital with 16.8grams of cocaine and 0.6grams of heroin alongside N158,000 monetary exhibits when his joint was raided.
NDLEA operatives rounded up 22 suspects during raids of several drug joints in Gadabuke forest in Toto local government and Down base/timber shed, Nasarawa council areas of the state respectively. They were arrested 43.9kg combined weight of illicit drugs.
In Borno state, anti narcotic operatives arrested one Caleb Okezuonu who was caught with 352 bottles of Codeine Syrup and 876 tablets of Rohypnol during a raid. Caleb, who is on a court bail, for two earlier drug related offences is being arrested for the third time under similar circumstances. However, another suspect with 11.5grams of Tramadol and N307, 255 monetary exhibits, escaped and has been declared wanted.
In Ebonyi state, a military personnel, Anayo Nwamban, who bought 1.1kg of cannabis from Mami market, planted same in his elder brother’s house and then made a report to the NDLEA office with a view to implicating him. He was however, arrested on Friday 3rd September after the arrest of his supplier. He admitted purchasing and planting the same in his own brother’s house.
