Eyimba FC: Finidi Takes Charge

Former flying winger of the Nigerian National team, the Super Eagles, Finidi George, is set to make his domestic manager’s debut. Reports say that the ex international has been announced as the new technical adviser of the Peoples Elephant, Eyimba Football Club.
With the announcement, George effectively replaces erstwhile coach, Fatai Osho, who chaperoned the Aba-based club to a second place finish at the just concluded 2020-21 NPF local league.
Apparently one of the most successful Nigerian clubside, with more Champions League titles and NPFL diadems than any other local rivals, Eyimba will be banking on George’s vast experience as one of the country’s players to make remarkable exploits in Europe, to further consolidate on its successful runs both at the local and continental levels.
George, a key member of the Ajax team that won three Eredivisie titles, the 1995 UEFA Champions League, the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, had 62 appearances for Nigeria between 1991 and 2002. Over the period, he was instrumental to the national team’s victory at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
Now 50-years, George retired from active football in 2004 after which he opted to go for a UEFA B license. That secured, he has worked with the youth side of his old European club, Real Mallorca just as he is linked with Nigeria’s cadet team, the Golden Eagles.
