FIB Operatives Nab Edo’s Land Grabbing Kingpin

*Surrendered After 3 Hours Gun Duel

Cracked operatives of the Force Intelligence Bureau, Abuja, had a handful in Benin City, Edo state capital, on early Thursday morning while attempting to pick alleged land grabber, identified as Glory Ikponmwosa.
Ikponmwosa, also known as Shina Rambo, was arrested at about 2am after three hours of what a police described as serious exchange of gun fire before being taken to Abuja.
Ikponmwosa, currently faces sundry charges, including land grabbing, arms stock piling, kidnapping, assassination and among other crimes, alleged sponsorship of violence in a number of communities. He is also to explain the source of unauthorized items recovered from him, including AK47 assault rifle, bullets and cartridges.
Spokesperson of Edo police command, who confirmed the arrest of Ikponmwosa, noted however that the command was yet to formally briefed of the allegations against the suspect.
“The arrest was done by operatives from Federal Intelligence Bureau, FIB, FHQ, Abuja and not operatives of the Edo state police command. I don’t know for what crimes he was arrested for,” state police spokesperson said.
Ikponmwosa is said to be opposed to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, for signing the popular Edo State Private Property Protection law 2021, which abolished Okaighele and other youth groups notorious for violent land grabbing in and around the state capital.
He is also alleged to have led and sponsored a futile protest match to the Palace of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’edo, Uku Akpolokpolor, Oba Ewuare II, against the state government for signing the private property bill into law.
“There are several petitions bothering on criminal activities in various police divisions in Edo state against him. But he has always managed to evade arrest until now.” a reliable police source disclosed.
