We’ll Lift Ban on Twitters Soon-FG

There are indications that the federal government has concluded plans to lift the ban on micro blogsite, Twitters. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, gave the indication in Abuja onWednesday shortly after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting.
According to the Minister, FG’s negotiating committee will soon meet with Twitters on the agreement to make recommendations.
Though details were not made available, the Minister disclosed that agreement has been reached in most areas of misunderstanding and that Twitters has accepted most of the conditions tabled. He noted however, that there are certain other areas where discussions are still ongoing. They include the issue of a Nigeria-based office.
According to the Minister, though Twitters agreed to the condition, it has however, maintained that it required extended time line put at 2022. He therefore expressed confidence that an agreement is imminent within a “matter days or weeks”, given the anxiety that has been shown by Nigerians.
Nigeria placed an indefinite suspicion on Twitters on June 5, 2021 following its decision to delete tweets by the President Muhammadu Buhari, in which he warned that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, “will be treated in the language they understand”.
The suspension was predicated on the federal government’s position deleting the President’s tweet was discourteius even as the platform appears to ignore deliberate orgy of misinformation and fake news with “…real-works violent consequences” spread through it.
