*Says Finding Ruth Keeps Hope Alive
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, has reunited one of the abducted Chibok girls, Ruth Ngladar Pogu with her family. The reunion of Ms Ngladar Pogu, now a mother of two, took place in Maiduguri on Saturday, after she surrendered, alongside her insurgent partner, to whom she has been married during her captivity, following heavy bombardment by Nigerian forces of their enclave somewhere in Bama in the Lake Chad area on July 28, 2021.
Ms Ngladar Pogu is one of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted seven years ago at a Government Secondary School in Chibok, which Boko Haram insurgents attacked around midnight on April 14, 2014.
Spokesperson to the governor, Malam Isa Gusau, disclosed that Governor Zulum received Ms Ngladar Poguhe at the Government House, “…in the presence of overwhelmed parents who reunited with her.” He added however, that under the governor’s supervision, security and government officials were mandated to keep the development under wrap until adequate contact with and sensitization of her family has been completed.
Speaking during the reunion, an obviously elated Governor Zulum noted that reuniting Ruth with her family has boosted the hopes of the parents, families and the entire state over the possibility of finding the remaining girls in captivity.
While commiserating with families of those still in captovity, Governor Zulum promised that the is ready, alongside Ms Pogu’s family, take her through a rehabilitation and reintegration program aimed at reassessing her health, psychological well being while leaving her with the choice of deciding her chosen path to a productive future.
“I am extremely excited both as Borno’s Governor and father of all sons and daughters of the state and also as a father to daughters. I know the feeling of families of those still under captivity but we have to remain hopeful especially with today’s development”
Also speaking at the ocassion, chairman of the Chibok Girls Movement, Yakubu Keki, expressed joy over the return of Ruth Nglari Apagu, adding that the people of Chibok appreciate the efforts of security establishments and the concern and support regularly shown by Governor Zulum on the plight of parents whose daughters are still missing.
