*Active Cases Surpass 9,000

The Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control, NCDC, has rung the alarm bells over the disturbing surge in the infection rate of Covid-19. The agency, which raised the alarm via its verified website on Friday, disclosed that while the country recorded an additional 565 new infections within 24 hours, the figure took the tall to 9,066.
Friday’s figures brought the country’s total infection, as recorded from the 36 states and FCT to 177,142 with 2,178 mortalities.
NCDC statistics indicate that the figure represents a summation of reported cases from 16 states of the federation and the FCT, with Lagos still holding a command lead with 348 new infections. Coming next are Rivers and Akwa Ibom with 70 and 45 infections.
Others in Oyo, FCT, Ekiti, Kwara, Ogun and Gombe with 36, 24, 15, 7, 7 and 3. While Anambra and Kaduna reported 2 cases each, Bayelsa, Cross River, Edo, Plateau, Kano and Sokoto came up with 1 each.
Over the same period, 76 infected persons were discharged from health isolation facilities on Friday having recovered from the viral attack.
