Anambra 2021: Help Us, INEC Begs NBA, CJN

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has sent a passionate appeal to both the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, the Attorney General and Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, to intervene in the confusing and conflicting litany of litigations over the September 6 governorship election in Anambra state.
The electoral umpire made the appeal in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday by its head of Information and Voter Education and Publicity Committee, Festus Okoye.
While making the appeal during an interaction session with newsmen, Okoye disclosed that INEC is very worried over the contentious high rate of ex parte orders dished out by different courts all of which the tendency to undermine the conduct of a credible election in Anambra state.
According to him, the Nigerian Bar and Bench should not only intervene but must also do so with dispatch as quickly as possible, INEC, explained that both the Nigerian Bar and Bench must act with dispatch. Else, INEC’s powers and independence stand likely to be compromised.
