Nigeria’s long jumper and 2019 African Games champion, Ese Brrume, gave Team Nigeria its first medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games early Tuesday morning.
Brume’s Bronze-winning feat came with her 6.97 metres, enough to erase the glaring possibility of a nightmarish no-medal outing for the country at the delayed global athletic event.
Brume was bettered by the duo of Germany’s Malaika Mihambo, who got gold with a 7.00m leap and America’s Brittney, with who had another 6.97m jump.
Reese initially led the park but had to settle for silver when the German, who obviously reserved her best for last, took a decisive golden leap in her final jump which proved sufficient enough to propel her from the back pack to the frontline.
“This medal means a lot to me. It doesn’t matter the colour. First I dedicate it to Bishop Oyedepo and I plan to decorate him with the medal later.
Thank you Jesus and thank you all for your prayers. Thank you, thank you so much,” a visibly excited Brume said while holding the Nigerian flag.
