*Suspends DCP Abba Kyari Over Hushpuppi
*To Conduct Independent Investigation
*Directs IGP to Provide More Information

The Police Service Commission, PSC, on Sunday, agreed to the recommendation proposed to it on Saturday by Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, for the immediate suspension of DCP Abba Kyari, head of the IG Intelligence Response Team, IRT.
In its response to the recommendation, PSC, in a signed statement by its Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, suspended Kyari from office with effect from Saturday, July 31, 2021.
The suspension’s order is contained in a letter, reference PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138, to the Inspector General of Police on Sunday, August 1st, 2021.
It was signed on behalf of the commission’s Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector-General of Police, by Hon. Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court who doubles as an Honourable Commissioner 1 in the Commission. The Chairman is on leave.
The suspension will remain in force pending the determination, conclusion or outcome of the investigation over his alleged role on Hushpuppi’s $1.1m internal fraud over which Kyari is reportedly indicted by a US court.
To that extent, Kyari is expected to withdraw from carrying out any exercise of his powers and function of his office.
“Abba Kyari’s suspension took effect from Saturday, July 31st 2021 and would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation in respect of his alleged indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States.
In addition, the Commission directed the IGP to furnish it with information on further development on the matter under review for necessary action.
