No fewer that seven thousand (7,000) Councillors who were elected and served between 1999-2002 in the twenty-one (21) Local Government Areas of Anambra state yesterday stormed the campaign headquarters of Dr Godwin Maduka, an aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
They had come along with political appointees who served as aides to the then state governor, Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju. They had served as Commissioners, Assistants and Advisers within same period.
While commending Maduka for making Anambra proud all over the world in medical expertise/excellence, threw their weight behind his governorship aspiration which they believed would lift the state from the present doldrums.
Receiving them, the international multiple award winner Dr Maduka, a United States of America-based medical expert assured them he was only concerned about the welfare of citizens of the state.
He expressed high hopes that he would still pick the PDP ticket, or move up to another party to enable him actualize his ambition and drive to improve the lot of citizens of Anambra.
Going by the recent list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the battle of who flies the flag of the PDP still open and could go anywhere.
So, Maduka who believed that the adhoc and special delegates who were rooting for him were unjustifiably excluded, said it’s not yet over until he’s given the ticket.
A spokesman for the ex-Councillors/aides, Hon Lawrence Akwuba from Anambra East Council said they were ready to partner Maduka and with their backing he would surely sweep the stakes irrespective of whichever political party he runs under.
He commended Maduka for his humane disposition which he described as legendary. That he touched each of their households as well as other citizens during the heat of Covid-19 pandemic.
“We saw him as a go-getter who loves the masses that we represent”, Akwuba added.
A top socialite and former husband to Nollywood actress Tonto Dike was on hand to express his immense joy in making Anambra his second home because of Maduka and the people’s hospitality.
