Covid-19: Upsurge in Nigeria

Nigerians may have reasons for more concern as covid-19 infection rate is gradually taking an upward swing again. That is, if the newest figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, is anything to go by. According to the centre, the country recorded 91 new cases on Tuesday without any casualty as opposed to the 50 that was reported on Monday.
As was the case on Monday, Lagos state top the infection incident list with 66 new cases, 35 more than its previous day’s infection rate. Kwara came second with 12 new infections while Rivers, Kaduna and Oyo fare behind with four, three and three respectively. Plateau and the FCT came up with one infection each.
Over all, the new figures according to the NCDC, represent a rise in infections as the deadly virus continues to pose a serious threat on its third wave.
With the new figures, confirmed infection rate in the country stands at 168,000 with 164,405 patients discharged just as 2,122 fatalities have been recorded. NCDC also disclosed that there were more than 1,400 active cases across the country as of July 6.
