Ade-Ade Bosun, Abuja
A federal high court sitting in Abuja, told former registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof Adedibu Ojerinde, that he is not qualified for any bail. The court gave the ruling on Tuesday after taking arguments as to whether or not Prof Ojerinde, who is standing trial over complicity in the diversion of public funds put at N5.2bn, is worthy of bail.
Prof Ojerinde pleaded not guilty when the 18-count charge was read to him. However, Justice Obiora Egwuatu ordered that the former registrar be remanded in correctional custody.pending when hearing of his bail application is heard on July 8.
According to the charges by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, Ojerinde allegedly committed the alleged Offences while serving as JAMB registrar.
While informing the court of his bail application, Prof Ojerinde’s counsel, Peter Olurunnishola, SAN, also sought time to go through a counter affidavit filed by the prosecution which he claimed, was late in coming.
In the counter affidavit, the prosecution stands opposed to the defense’s request for an administrative bail pending the hearing of his bail application, a plea the presiding judge granted.
