Despite concerted efforts by local vigilante groups and Nigerian security forces to curb the excesses of criminals operating in parts of the northern states, it appears the seige is far from being over. On Tuesday, bandits operating around the Sheme axis of Katsina state abducted and murdered the member representing Shinkafi constituency in the Zamfara state House of Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed G. Ahmed.
The bandits also allegedly abducted the law maker’s son and driver whose whereabouts are still unknown.
While confirming the development, the state assembly’s Director-General of Press and Public Affairs, Mustafa Jafaru-Kaura, disclosed that Hon Ahmed was taking his son to school in Kano when the incident happened in Sheme, Katsina state on Tuesday night.
“He was taking his son to a hospital in Kano. The lawmaker’s son and driver were kidnapped by bandits,” Jafaru-Kaura said.
The late law maker who, until his death, chaired the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, lost his life few hours after attending the official defection of the state governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital.
