Akufo-Addo Orders Arrest of Culprits, Apologizes to Buhari
In an apparent bid to douse the escalating faceoff between Nigeria and Ghana over the demolition of the former’s high commission building, Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of the persons behind the attack.
The Nigerian Foreign Affairs minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, made the disclosure on Monday while briefing newsmen.
Onyeama, who spoke during the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 media briefing, described the attack on the Nigerian Embassy as a violation of Vienna Convention, adding however, that the directive by President Akufo- Addo directive has been communicated to the federal government by Ghanaian Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway. President Akufo-Ado’s reaction, according to Onyeama, is sequel to the protest lodged by Nigeria lodged after the attack on its High Commission facility.
Onyeama noted that though the Ghanaian president has ordered the arrest of the culprits, Nigeria was still awaiting definitive action before taking further action.
Meanwhile, 2n-Nework gathered that President Akufo-Addo is reported to have had a tephone conversation with his Nigerian counterpart on Tuesday, to further express his regret and sincere apology over the issue.
Reliable sources disclosed that the Ghanaian leader informed President Buhari that he has directed full investigation into the incident. 2n-Nework can confirm that some suspects had been arrested and are scheduled to be arraigned in court shortly.
